Bridgewater Police Investigating Pedestrian Crash at Post Office
BRIDGEWATER — Chief Christopher Delmonte reports that the Bridgewater Police Department is investigating a pedestrian crash that occurred in the post office parking lot Friday morning.
At approximately 11 a.m., the Bridgewater Police and Fire Departments responded to the Bridgewater Post Office, 169 Broad St., after receiving multiple 911 calls about a pedestrian that was struck by a motor vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers located a man injured on the ground in the rear parking lot of the building.
The victim, identified as Gary Moore, age 53, of Mansfield, was treated by Bridgewater Fire Department paramedics and was subsequently transported by ambulance to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. Moore suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Through an on-scene investigation, officers determined that the victim had been walking through the rear parking lot when the driver of a vehicle accidentally stepped on the gas instead of the brake pedal upon seeing the pedestrian.
The driver, identified as Dexter McDonald, age 84, of Bridgewater, continued through the parking lot after allegedly striking the victim and struck several shrubs before coming to a stop.
The incident is under investigation by the Bridgewater Police Department and as of Friday afternoon no citations or charges have been filed. Police have made a request with the Massachusetts Department of Motor Vehicles to have McDonald’s license status filed as an immediate threat.
