East Bridgewater Police Remind Residents of Social Host Law
EAST BRIDGEWATER — With senior prom approaching, Chief Scott Allen would like to remind East Bridgewater residents about the state’s social host law.
Parents and adults can face fines, jail time, or both if they provide alcohol to individuals under the age of 21. Minors can also face punishment for hosting parties at their parent’s homes without their knowledge.
“While some parents may think that hosting a prom party in their home and confiscating car keys from guests is a good idea, if the guests are drinking alcohol underage it is against the law and ultimately still unsafe,” Chief Allen said.
State law says that anyone who provides alcohol to a person under 21 years old can be fined up to $2,000 and face up to a year in prison.
