Hull Police Department Receives AAA Gold Award for Traffic Safety Efforts
HULL — Chief John Dunn is proud to announce that the Hull Police Department was honored last month with the AAA Gold Award for its traffic safety enforcement and education efforts.
The Gold Award is AAA’s highest honor for police departments’ traffic safety work, and is based on motor vehicle accident and enforcement data, as well as OUI enforcement efforts in the town of Hull.
Hull Police Officers Joseph Smith and Edward Minelli were also honored as AAA Traffic Safety Heroes for their outstanding work. Officer Smith was recognized for his work as the department’s safety officer and grant officer and Officer Minelli was awarded for his traffic and OUI enforcement performance.
“Our entire department is proud to have earned this honor, and I want to specifically congratulate Officer Smith and Officer Minelli for their commitment to making Hull’s roads safe for everyone,” Chief Dunn said. “Traffic safety is a critical element of the work we do on a daily basis, and this award serves as a reminder of the impact our officers can have on the community as a whole.”
Hull was presented with the Gold Award based on the strong combination of its services to the community, as well as town-wide crash statistics and traffic safety enforcement activities.
Throughout the year, the Hull Police Department has continued its ongoing efforts to reduce preventable traffic accidents through proactive and focused traffic enforcement. The men and women of the Hull Police Department, as part of their daily duties conduct traffic enforcement throughout town by monitoring traffic and utilizing a variety of tools and techniques, including radar units, laser units and overall motor vehicle enforcement, as well as coordinated and roaming enforcement patrols.
Aside from enforcement, the Hull Police provide car seat installation services on a monthly basis or by appointment. These services are conducted by officers who are state certified technicians in the proper inspection and installation of child safety seats. Hull Police also provide car seats to families in need with the help of a yearly grant.
Additionally, the Hull Police Department received grants toward reducing underage drinking, the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors, impaired driving and a pedestrian safety grant, which helped officers address each of those significant safety concerns.
