Reading Police Respond after Resident Finds Possible Pipe Bomb
Surrounding Homes Evacuated Out of Abundance of Caution
READING — Chief Mark D. Segalla reports that the Reading Police Department is on scene after a resident found what they believed to be a pipe bomb next to their home.
Police responded to a location on Rachel Road, a side street off of Summer Avenue capped by a cul-de-sac, at 6:15 p.m. Upon arrival, police observed a suspicious device and cordoned off the area.
The home in question and the abutting residences have been evacuated out of an abundance of caution. The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad has been alerted and is responding to the scene at this time.
Motorists are urged to avoid Summer Avenue between Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue due to the ongoing police activity.
This is a breaking news update. Additional information will be released as soon as possible.
