Groveland Police Department Investigating Report of Officer Sleeping in Cruiser
GROVELAND – Deputy Chief Jeffrey Gillen reports that the Groveland Police Department is investigating a report that a reserve police officer fell asleep behind the wheel of a Groveland police cruiser yesterday morning.
Groveland Police received a picture and accompanying video of a reserve officer, who was hired in November 2015, asleep behind the wheel of a police cruiser at an intersection in Groveland.
The Groveland Police Department has opened an internal investigation into this matter. The reserve officer has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
“We take this matter very seriously and will conduct a thorough investigation,” Deputy Chief Gillen said. “This is a personnel matter and we are limited in what we can discuss, but we will make the results of this investigation as public as the law allows. We thank the community for its patience and understanding as we move forward with this investigation.”
