Gloucester Fire Department Wears Pink Shirts to Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month
GLOUCESTER — Chief Eric Smith is pleased to announce that the Gloucester Fire Department will be wearing pink t-shirts throughout October to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM).
BCAM occurs every October and is an international health campaign that works to increase awareness about the disease and to raise money to support research into its cause, prevention efforts, diagnosis, treatment and to eventually find a cure.
For several years, members of the Gloucester Firefighters Union have purchased and donned the pink shirts as a way to raise money for breast cancer research.
“I’m proud to see firefighters taking the initiative to raise money and awareness for a worthy cause,” Chief Smith. “This cause is close to many of our hearts, and we encourage all those who would like to join our campaign to grab a shirt and wear it throughout October.”
Residents who would like to purchase the shirts can visit the fire headquarters on School Street and ask to see the Union Steward on duty. Shirts are $15 each and all proceeds go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
