Bedford Police Arrest Suspect in Connection with Bank Robbery

BEDFORD — Chief Robert Bongiorno reports that the Bedford Police Department has arrested a man in connection with Monday evening’s bank robbery.

STEPHEN GINGRAS, AGE 39, OF MANCHESTER, N.H. is charged with:

• Unarmed Robbery
• Larceny over $250
• Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
• Unlawful Possession of Ammunition
• Being a Fugitive from Justice

Bedford Police Detectives, working in conjunction with the Boston Police Department Detectives, SWAT Team, Special Operations Unit, as well as the FBI Bank Robbery Task Force, tracked GINGRAS to a residence on Orton-Morotta Way in South Boston, where he was arrested at 2:41 a.m. Wednesday. A firearm and ammunition were found in his possession during the arrest.

GINGRAS is charged in connection with the Monday evening robbery of the Citizens Bank inside Stop and Shop on Great Road in Bedford. He is also wanted on a robbery warrant out of Concord District Court, and he is a suspect in another bank robbery last week in Salem, N.H.

GINGRAS will appear in the South Boston Division of Boston Municipal Court today.

Chief Bongiorno praised the swift and aggressive work of detectives working with Boston Police to arrest GINGRAS in less than 36 hours after the robbery.

“Violent crime and robberies are not common in Bedford, but when they occur, the men and women of the Bedford Police Department are well-prepared,” Chief Bongiorno said. “In capturing this suspect quickly we have sent a message, and I am very proud of the work of our officers and our partners in the Boston Police Department.”

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
