Community Support Leads Chelsea Police to Arrest 3 in Connection with Heroin Distribution
CHELSEA — Chief Brian Kyes is pleased to report that the Chelsea Police Department, acting on numerous tips received from community members regarding drug distribution in the Poplar Street area, yesterday arrested three people and seized more than 20 bags of suspected heroin.
As a result of community support and an intensive investigation by Chelsea Police Detectives:
- JOSE REYES, aka ARIEL CRUZ, AGE 53, OF CHELSEA was arrested and charged with Distribution of a Class A Substance (Heroin) Third and Subsequent Offense, School Zone Violation, Possession of a Class A Substance (Heroin) with Intent to Distribute, and Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws.
- ERNESTO RAMIREZ, AGE 38, OF CHELSEA was arrested and charged with Possession of a Class A Substance (Heroin) and Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws, and
- ANGELA DeMELO, AGE 34 OF FALL RIVER was arrested and charged with Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws.
“The Chelsea Police Department depends on the support of our community and partnerships we have forged with community members in order to be successful,” Chief Kyes said. “With these arrests we have shown our deep commitment to those partnerships while sending a clear message to those involved in the heroin trade that these activities will be shut down and those responsible for distributing poisons like heroin will be made to account for their actions.”
REYES and RAMIREZ were held on $25,000 bail. DeMELO was released on personal recognizance.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
