Ipswich Police Arrest Man for Domestic Assault and Battery on an Elderly Person
IPSWICH – Chief Paul A. Nikas reports that the Ipswich Police Department arrested a man yesterday for assaulting his father and resisting arrest.
MICHAEL L. DUPRAY, AGE 48, OF IPSWICH is charged with:
- Domestic Assault and Battery on an Elderly Person
- Use of a Firearm While Committing a Felony
- Assault by Dangerous Weapon (Shotgun) (Two Counts)
- Resisting Arrest
- Unlawful Possession of a Shotgun
- Unlawful Possession of Ammunition
- Wanton/Reckless Destruction of Property
On Monday, April 4, around 7:50 p.m., police responded to a residence on Skytop Road for a report of a domestic violence incident in progress.
Upon officers’ arrival, a young woman reported that her father, later identified as DUPRAY, had assaulted her grandfather. A short time later, DUPRAY exited the house and police noted that he was carrying a loaded shotgun and was wearing an ammunition belt.
Police instructed DUPRAY to put down his weapon. After he dropped the shotgun, DUPRAY resisted arrest before he was eventually escorted to a cruiser. He was then transported to the Ipswich Police Department for booking.
Once at the station, Action EMS transported DUPRAY to Beverly Hospital for evaluation. Following his release from the hospital, he was sent to the Middleton House of Corrections, where he was held pending his arraignment.
“I am extremely proud of the quick actions and professionalism of these officers during a volatile and dangerous situation,” Chief Nikas said. “Thanks to their actions, no one was seriously injured.”
