Melrose Police Chief Walks Marathon Route to Raise Money for Jimmy Fund
MELROSE — Chief Michael L. Lyle reports that he completed the 26.2-mile Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk last weekend to raise money for patients receiving treatment through the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Chief Lyle raised $250 as part of Team Police Chiefs, which as of Wednesday afternoon, is giving over $57,000 to the fund.
The 77 members of Team Police Chiefs walked in honor of Lucas St. Onge, a 4-year-old from Lowell who is part of Dana-Farber’s Hero Program. Volunteer hero participants, whose pictures and bios line the marathon course, serve as a symbol of what the donations made to the Jimmy Fund go to support.
Along with hundreds of other participants walking for the same cause, Chief Lyle started at Hopkinton at 6 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27.
Seven hours and 51 minutes later, he completed the course, tired but accomplished.
“My aches and pains for a couple days are a far cry from what these patients and families are going through day in and day out,” Chief Lyle said. “I was honored to be a part of this important endeavor to support Lucas and the Jimmy Fund.”
Donations to the Jimmy Fund on behalf of Team Police Chiefs can be made until Oct. 31. Visit their page here.
