West Newbury Police Investigating Two-Car Motor Vehicle Crash
WEST NEWBURY — Chief Lisa Holmes reports that the West Newbury Police Department responded to a two-car motor vehicle crash over the weekend that seriously injured a local woman.
On Sunday, Sept. 20, at approximately 3 p.m., West Newbury Police and Fire were dispatched to the intersection of Crane Neck Street and Georgetown Road. Upon arrival at the scene, police observed that a Chevrolet Suburban had apparently failed to stop for a posted stop sign on Crane Neck Street, in turn striking a Volvo station wagon that was travelling on Georgetown Road.
The Chevrolet had five people inside, all of whom were treated and released from Anna Jacques Hospital on Sunday. The operator is a woman in her 40s from Danvers.
The Volvo was operated by a woman in her 50s from from West Newbury. She sustained serious injuries from the crash and was transported via medical helicopter to Boston Medical Center. She was the sole occupant in the vehicle.
“This is a sad situation where one driver’s recklessness seriously injured the driver of another vehicle. On behalf of the entire police department, our hearts go out to the family of the victim,” Chief Holmes said. “We urgently remind drivers to always obey the rules of the road and proceed with caution at all times while behind the wheel.”
The crash is under investigation by Sgt. Daniel Cena and Officer Michael Dwyer of the West Newbury Police Department, with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police Reconstruction Unit.
