Two Ipswich Police Officers Struck by Vehicle and Injured While Working Road Detail in Hamilton
HAMILTON — Ipswich Police Chief Paul A. Nikas reports that two Ipswich Police Officers were injured while working in Hamilton this morning.
The officers were working a road detail on Rt. 1A shortly after 10 a.m. when they were struck by a vehicle.
Injured were Off. Zachary Bird and Off. David Harrell.
Both were taken to a local hospital and treated for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Chief Nikas visited both officers this afternoon, along with other concerned members of the Ipswich Police Department to offer their support to the officers and their families.
The incident is under investigation by the Hamilton Police Department, and all inquiries should be directed to that department.
Chief Nikas urges all motorists to use caution and slow down in work zones to allow workers and police officers alike to do their jobs safely.
It is very common for police officers from neighboring municipalities to be assigned to work road, construction, and utility details when the department needs to fill the jobs and their own officers are unavailable.
