Winchester Police Arrest Man for Breaking and Entering Into Motor Vehicles
WINCHESTER — Chief Kenneth C. Albertelli reports that Winchester Police arrested a man today in connection with breaking and entering into multiple motor vehicles.
GARY B. MERCER, AGE 20, OF SOMERVILLE is charged with:
- Larceny of Property Over $250
- Breaking and Entering in the Night Time With the Intent to Commit A Felony
- Receiving Stolen Property
Around 4:30 a.m. police responded to a residence on Bacon Street for a report of a motor vehicle break-in. A man had MERCER cornered in a driveway onHarrington Road.The man stated he came out of his home this morning and observed MERCER and another individual in his driveway going through his vehicles. He pursued the suspects on foot. One man fled down Bacon Street and MERCER ran toward Harrington Road, a dead end street.
MERCER was placed in handcuffs and booked at the Winchester Police Station. Officers recovered a backpack from the suspect with items allegedly stolen from vehicles.
Police also searched the surrounding area where they located MERCER and discovered several other vehicles that had been broken into.
The investigation remains open and ongoing. Police are still seeking information on the second suspect.
“We are pursuing all leads connected to this case,” Chief Albertelli said. “Any residents in the area of these break-ins with information are encouraged to call police.”
