Burlington Police Investigating Home Invasion
One Suspect, 20, Arrested
Friday, Oct. 3
BURLINGTON — Police Chief Michael R. Kent announces that the Burlington Police Department is investigating an armed home invasion that occurred early this morning. One man was arrested.
Police responded at 12:18 a.m. to an address on Church Lane for a reported fight. Arriving officers noticed two men in their 20’s holding down a third man. The first two men were identified as residents of the home, and the third man was identified as CONNOR JOHN TUFTS, AGE 20, of HAVERHILL. The first two men, sons of the homeowner, were holding him down and identified him as one of three or four men who broke into their home with baseball bats in an apparent robbery attempt.
TUFTS was charged with Home Invasion (Four counts), Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Three counts), and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon on a Person Over 60.
The residents told police that one of the residents was playing video games with a friend, when the men broke into the home and started beating the friend. This rustled the other residents of the home.
During a struggle, TUFTS allegedly pushed the 62-year-old homeowner down a portion of a flight of stairs. The homeowner’s two sons jumped on top of TUFTS and held him down until police arrived. The homeowner sustained a knee injury but declined medical attention at the scene.
TUFTS was treated and released from a nearby hospital with minor injuries. The friend was also also treated at a hospital for injuries that are considered serious but non life-threatening.
Police believe that the friend was the target of the attack and that the suspects were trying to rob him.
Police do not believe this was a random act.
TUFTS will be arraigned later today in Woburn District Court. Police are still looking for the other suspects who were seem fleeing the area in a motor vehicle.
