Arlington Police Debut New Polaris eBike
ARLINGTON — Police Chief Frederick Ryan reports that the Arlington Police Department recently purchased its first Polaris Electric Bicycle to upgrade its fleet.
The Rapid Response Team Safety Model is specifically designed for police use. It can reach up to 20 miles per hour with the assistance of a 750 watt motor.
Eleven officers who previously completed Cops on Bicycles with Education for Bicyclists will rotate use of the eBike for patrol, community policing and traffic enforcement throughout Arlington.
“This new Polaris eBike is a great addition to our already established bike fleet,” Chief Ryan said. “Partially powered by a small motor, the design allows officers to effectively patrol the community, especially the heavily traveled Minuteman Commuter Bikeway, and reach destinations not accessible by cruiser.”
Polaris develops and designs their eBikes using the latest green, electric power technology in conjunction with a sleek design. This allows riders to navigate narrow streets and lanes, which are often difficult for emergency vehicles and patrol cars to reach quickly. In turn, first responders expand their range and arrive faster while conserving energy.
“It has been a pleasure for our team to work with the Arlington Police Department,” said Kelly Zarse Tarasuik, Director of Sales and Marketing for Polaris. “We know the community will benefit greatly from the rapid response eBike models and green technology, saving on fuel costs, cutting down on emissions – all while providing public safety and connecting with the district.”
