Tips Help Dunstable Police Department Catch Suspect in String of Car Breaks
Partnerships with the Public Make the Difference in Capturing Quality of Life Criminal
DUNSTABLE — Police Chief James G. Downes III is pleased to report that tips from the public this week have led the Dunstable Police Department to a suspect wanted for a string of car breaks in October.
The suspect, a 21-year-old male from Nashua, N.H. will be summonsed to Ayer District Court in the coming weeks, charged in connection with several thefts and breaks into cars in town. The suspect has also been detained in Nashua for unrelated criminal charges.
“We are pleased that our police investigators worked collectively with members of the general public, who helped provide valuable information,” Chief Downes said. “Moreover our police investigators worked collaboratively with outside police agencies from Nashua, N.H., Groton and Pepperell in order to develop helpful criminal intelligence reports.
“We believe that many successful investigators are rooted in the public’s willingness to contact police and share valuable information. We thank all residents for their cooperation and assistance.”
Police believe that the breaks occurred during the late night hours. At least six car breaks occurred during the last weekend before Halloween.
However, just because a suspect has been captured does not mean that the public should let down their collective guard. The department offers the following tips:
- Always lock all car doors
- Roll up windows and close sunroofs
- Never leave lose electronics in plain view
- Do not leave money in your car or loose change in plain view
- Call police immediately if you notice something missing.
If your car is broken into, call 911. If you have any general questions, you are encouraged to call Dunstable Police at 978-649-7445.
