New Traffic Pattern to Go Into Effect on Route 101 in Bedford on Monday

BEDFORD, N.H. — Chief John J. Bryfonski and the Bedford Police Department would like to alert motorists that a new traffic pattern will be in place on Route 101 beginning Monday, Oct. 23.

The change will affect Route 101 between Meetinghouse Road and Liberty Hill Road. It will include a lane shift, striping and construction that will take place until spring of 2018.

“We want to thank drivers and residents in advance for their patience during this phase of construction on Route 101,” Chief Bryfonski said. “Once the project is completed, this busy roadway will be safer to travel on for all. In the interim, we ask that everyone exercise additional caution in this area.”

The Bedford Police Department would also like to remind motorists to slow down in the construction area of Route 101, especially those who choose to detour onto side roads off Route 101. Bedford Police Officers will be conducting traffic patrols in the area to deter speeding vehicles. Speed limits will be strictly enforced.

A breakdown of work is as follows:

Lane shift:  East and westbound traffic on Route 101, between Liberty Hill Road and Meetinghouse Road, will be shifted onto two lanes on what is currently the eastbound side of Route 101.

In preparation for the lane shift, guardrails will be installed on the eastbound side. Concrete barriers will also be installed to separate east and westbound traffic from construction that will commence on the current westbound lane.

Line striping: Expect longer than normal delays during line re-striping on Tuesday, Oct. 24.

Concrete barriers: Barriers will be deployed on Oct. 24 and 25. Once the barrier installation is complete, roadway reconstruction will take place behind the barriers.

No left turns: Left turns from Liberty Hill Road onto Route 101 west will be prohibited. Left turns from Route 101 west onto Liberty Hill Road will also be prohibited.

Alternate routes: Motorists who would normally travel Liberty Hill Road to turn left and travel west on Route 101 should use the Route 101 / Nashua Road intersection.

Additional work: Work on utility relocations will continue along Route 101, between Wallace and Bell Hill roads.
