Groveland Welcomes New Town Clerk Elizabeth Cunniff
GROVELAND –Finance and Personnel Director Denise Dembkoski is pleased to share that Groveland has a new Town Clerk.
Elizabeth Cunniff was elected to the post in the annual town election on Monday, May 6, and started her new role on Monday, May 13.
As town clerk, Cunniff will be the official keeper of town records, which include records of births, deaths and marriages of the town’s residents as well as all town meeting minutes. The town clerk’s office also oversees all town, state and federal elections, administers the oath of office to all elected and appointed town officials and conducts the annual town census.
Cunniff replaces longtime Town Clerk Anne Brodie, who retired on Friday, May 10.
Prior to becoming Town Clerk, Cunniff worked in parks support operations for the Massachusetts Department of Conversation and Recreation. She’s lived in Groveland since 1991.
“The town has been so good to me,” Cunniff said. “It has been a beautiful community to raise my children in. I moved to a small town to really live in a small town, and it was time to give back. It’s nice to know your neighbors, and that’s what Groveland offers.”
Since she began her role, Cunniff has adjusted the Town Clerk’s office hours. The office is open Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. Cunniff said the new hours more closely align with the hours of other Town Hall offices.
As Town Clerk, Cunniff also hopes to make the office more user-friendly and organized. She’s also looking to adopt new software to make it easier for residents to access the Town Clerk’s services online.
“It’s wonderful to welcome Elizabeth to our team, and I’m confident she will be a phenomenal Town Clerk,” Dembkoski said. “She has great ideas, and as a longtime resident has a lot of determination to give back to her town.”
