Rt. 18/Bedford Street Evening Sewer Line Work Begins this Week in East Bridgewater
EAST BRIDGEWATER — Police Chief Scott Allen and Director of Public Works John Haines announce that a vital sewer line project will begin this week that will affect traffic on a major thoroughfare in town.
This week, RFS Corp. of Norfolk will be working to install a new sewer main on Rt. 18 (Bedford Street). The sewer main will run from the entrance of the Jr./Sr. High School to the center of town from the Fire Station to Spring Street.
The work will take place evenings, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting tonight and running through the end of October.
During the overnight construction hours, southbound traffic on Rt.18 in the area will be detoured from the Fire Station, located at 268 Bedford St., to the intersection of Spring and Bedford streets. The detour will run from Spring Street to West Street and back to Bedford St. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area at night if possible, and delays should be expected, especially early on as motorists learn the detours.
Local businesses will remain open, and all possible attempts will be made to accommodate access to local businesses during construction hours.
No impact is expected on Jr./Sr. High School arrivals and departures. East Bridgewater Police Officers will be working in the area to assist with traffic to the best of their ability.
