EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Timothy Harhen reports that the East Bridgewater Fire Department extinguished a house fire on Saturday on Chestnut Street.
At approximately 4:50 p.m., East Bridgewater Fire responded to a call for a house fire at 15 Chestnut St.
Upon arrival, heavy flames were coming from nearly every window on the first and second floors of the home.
The homeowner, a 69-year-old man, was located by East Bridgewater Police on the front lawn suffering from burns he received. The man was transported by ambulance to Mass General Hospital and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Members of the Bridgewater and Whitman fire departments responded to the scene to assist in putting out the flames. The West Bridgewater Fire Department provided station coverage.
It took approximately one hour for the fire to be fully extinguished.
No other injuries were reported and the house was determined to be a total loss. The homeowner, who is the lone occupant of the home, will be displaced.
The cause and origin of the fire is currently under investigation.
Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office are assisting with the investigation. Any further inquiries about the investigation should be referred to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
