BROOKLINE — Interim Superintendent Ben Lummis is pleased to announce that the Public Schools of Brookline will celebrate their upcoming eighth grade graduations with modified graduation ceremonies for each school in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“These graduations mark an important milestone for our middle school students,” said Interim Superintendent Lummis. “We look forward to each school having the opportunity to celebrate their students’ success and bid them a farewell before they enter into the next stage of their learning experiences. We congratulate all 567 eighth graders and their families.”
All eighth-grade students from the Public Schools of Brookline will be celebrating their graduations during the week of June 15.
Administrators, faculty and staff have all collaborated to ensure that Brookline students and parents can enjoy their graduations while adhering to the latest guidance from local and state public health officials.
The virtual graduations will feature pre-recorded ceremonies, live-streamed messages and diploma pick-ups that will comply with all social distancing requirements.
The Baker, Coolidge Corner, Driscoll, Heath, Lawrence, Lincoln, Pierce and Runkle School graduations will all be school-specific with their own unique addresses, speakers and events.
To adhere to federal, state and local guidelines and in an effort to promote social distancing, all students will receive pre-scheduled time intervals for when they will be allowed to pick up their diplomas at their respective schools. During the diploma pick-up, students will have the opportunity to take graduation photos.
Additionally, at the diploma pick-up students and participants are asked to follow several steps to protect the health of themselves and others. All participants will be required to wear a mask and are encouraged to bring their own.
Details regarding each school’s respective events has already been shared with eighth grade families.
