MIDDLEBOROUGH – Chief Lance Benjamino and the Middleborough Fire Department would like to recognize and say thank you to all of the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) on the front line during National EMS Week.
Chief Benjamino would especially like to recognize the the seven EMT Paramedics and 27 EMT Basics of the Middleborough Fire Department, the first responders of the Middleborough Police Department and all of the Brewster Emergency Medical Service (EMS) providers serving the town during this year’s National EMS Week.
National EMS Week began Sunday, May 17 and ends Saturday, May 23. The annual event celebrates the work of emergency medical practitioners who are on the front lines protecting residents in their communities when emergencies arise.
Last year, the Middleborough Fire Department responded to nearly 5,000 calls, with nearly half of those calls being EMS related.
A little known fact is that three of the department’s engines are licensed as Massachusetts Class V (non-transporting) ambulances.
“This year’s theme is ‘Ready Today. Preparing for Tomorrow,’ ” Chief Benjamino said. “This theme, which was developed long before the COVID-19 crisis, is particularly meaningful now as we see the EMS and First Responders rallying to support those affected by this crisis and continuing to respond to the everyday emergencies in the community. I am extremely proud to be part of such a professional team that we have here in Middleborough.”
