SUDBURY — Director of Student Services Stephanie Juriansz is pleased to announce that Sudbury Public Schools (SPS) recently hosted a Kickoff to Kindergarten event for parents of incoming kindergarten students.
On Tuesday, Jan. 28, parents were invited to attend an informational session at the Peter Noyes Elementary School to learn more about kindergarten and the kindergarten registration process.
At the event, district leaders discussed registration, English Language Learners & special education, health info, safety, the kindergarten day and more. At the end of the presentation, a question and answer panel discussion was held.
Presenters included Noyes Principal Annette Doyle, PS Curriculum & Special Education Team Chair Anh Le, School Nurse Carol Bradford, Sudbury Police Chief Scott Nix and Parent Teacher Organization members.
Noyes Kindergarten Teacher Nancy Lacobucci, Loring Kindergarten Teacher Glenna Ratcliffe, Nixon Kindergarten Teacher Rebecca Amaral and Haynes Kindergarten Teacher Bethany Weart also presented at the event and represented the individual elementary schools.
“We want to ensure that the registration process for kindergarten goes as smoothly as possible for the parents in our district,” said Director Juriansz. “We encourage all parents to sign their children up at their earliest convenience and submit all forms and documents in a timely manner.”
The SPS kindergarten team is ready to welcome any child who is 5 years old by Sept. 1. Eligible students with summer birthdays are encouraged to attend rather than delay a year, and families can reach out to the Early Childhood Office to discuss any concerns, if conflicted.
To register, parents must first complete and submit the online forms and then drop off the printed forms and subsequent documents at the Student Services/Early Childhood Office, 40 Fairbank Road. Kindergarten registration began on Feb. 1 and will remain open until May 1. Registration will be available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during this period. Special evening registration will be held on Thursday, March 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. Children do not need to be present at registration.
The following records must be presented at the time of registration:
- Child’s valid birth certificate (original or abstract with seal)
- Child’s updated record of immunization including: DPT (Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus), MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hib, Polio, Hepatitis-B, Varicella, record of lead testing, TB screening and vision screening/Stereopsis
