Medway Boy’s Varsity Basketball Coach Named 2019 South Sectional Division II Coach of the Year

MEDWAY — Superintendent Armand Pires and Athletic Director Jeff Parcells are pleased to share that Medway High School’s varsity boys’ basketball coach Eric Copeland has been named the 2019 South Sectional Division II Coach of the Year.

Copeland was honored with the award by the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) as he begins his second year as Medway’s varsity boy’s basketball coach. Prior to his varsity coaching position, Copeland was Medway’s junior varsity boy’s basketball coach for the past eight years.

During 2018-2019, Copeland’s first season as the varsity coach, the team won the league championship and made it to the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament Sectional Finals.

“Coach Copeland shows a strong example of leadership in his position as head coach for our basketball program,” Parcells said. “He is a positive role model in our community and continuously pushes his players to be the best they can be. I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of this award.”

MBCA recognized Coaches and Assistant Coaches of the Year, honorees of the Leo Miller & Presidential Service Awards, Victory Club members and new Hall of Fame inductees. Awardees were recognized at the MBCA Hall of Fame Banquet on Sunday, Dec. 15.
