Advanced Health and Education Joins Gloucester Initiative
EATONTOWN, NJ and GLOUCESTER, Mass. — Advanced Health and Education, a substance abuse treatment facility in Eatontown, New Jersey, is pleased to announce its partnership in the Gloucester Massachusetts Police Department’s ANGEL initiative.
The ANGEL initiative extends life-saving opiate/opioid overdose treatment to the public, as well as giving people struggling with addiction the opportunity to come in and get help, without the risk of arrest for drug possession. The program also looks to provide a portion of federal criminal seizure funds be set aside for addiction treatment efforts.
The ANGEL initiative marks a shift in municipal policy to put citizens struggling with opioids/opiates (like heroin and oxycodone) into treatment instead of the criminal justice system.
Put into effect by Police Chief Leonard Campanello and Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken, the new policy is a step towards reducing the number of overdoses in Massachusetts. Opiate overdose is one of the leading causes of accidental death in Massachusetts, and nationally. (The full policy can be found here: http://jgprold.wpengine.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Gloucester-Angel-Program.pdf)
“We commend the efforts of Chief Campanello and Mayor Theken in making treatment accessible to people struggling with addiction,” said Arel Meister-Aldama, President of Advanced Health and Education. “We are honored to be working with the city of Gloucester to give members of the community an opportunity to go into treatment and get healthy. This program will save lives,” said Meister-Aldama.
Advanced Health and Education is offering a number of scholarships covering the entire cost of treatment to people who are diverted into the ANGEL program.
