Hull Public Schools to Unveil New Turf Field at High School on Friday
HULL — Superintendent Michael F. Devine is pleased to share that a grand opening ceremony for the new turf field at Hull High School will be held this week.
The ceremony for the new Hull Community Walking Track and Turf Field at Finlayson Field will be held on Friday, Sept. 27 beginning at 5:15 p.m.
The festivities will be held prior to the varsity football game against Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School. The match up will also serve as the homecoming game for Hull High School. All residents and community members are invited to see the first game played on the new field.
“We are very excited to be celebrating the near-completion of the new turf field and hope to see a large turnout for the game and festivities surrounding the game,” Superintendent Devine said. “I would like to say thank you for the support of the community in providing us with this beautiful asset that will benefit all who live and summer in Hull. This is so much more than a high school field. Generations of youth will be able to play on a field that they and the entire community can be proud.”
Admission to get into the stadium will be $3 for seniors and children and $5 for adults. All Hull Public Schools students can get in for free.
Selectmen and members of the Hull School Committee will be in attendance, along with members of the Hull High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
The captains of the Class of 2019-2020 Hull Pirate teams will be the first to run onto the field, followed by the football team, football team alumni and then all Hull Public Schools student-athletes in grades K-12.
Any students interested in participating in the opening ceremony should wear their team uniform or other Hull gear and should be in the high school gym by 5 p.m. to line up.
The new field will be home to the high school football team, boys and girls soccer teams, boys and girls lacrosse teams, baseball team, softball team and
boys and girls youth soccer, youth football and youth lacrosse teams.
Construction started in June 2019 and will be mostly finished by Thursday night, Sept. 26. The project is being done by Green Acres and Gale Associates.
The turf surface replaces a very worn grass field. The old field was approximately 15 years old and was the only regulation-size field in town.
The new field will be one of the first fields in the area to have a shockpad under the turf that greatly reduces the risk of concussions. The lights are also new Musco LED lights which are more energy efficient.
The Hull High School Boosters and others are looking for businesses who might be interested in sponsoring the field or advertising in other ways at the field. Those who would like to advertise at the stadium can email Superintendent Devine at mdevine@town.hull.ma.us.
Please note that after the game, the public will not have access to the field for the next few weeks while final punch list projects are completed.
