Easton Fire Chief Provides Update on Station 2 Addition and Renovation Project

EASTON — Chief Kevin Partridge is pleased to report that significant progress has been made in the ongoing addition and renovation project at Station 2, 85 Depot St.

The project will add a second floor to the firehouse that will include modern bunk rooms, a new locker room and male and female showers. The existing building will also be getting a complete renovation.

The project is funded by local developer Douglas A. King as part of an agreement with the town regarding the Queset Smart Growth Overlay District that was approved at Town Meeting in 2008.

Since the project broke ground on May 6, construction crews have been working hard to move the project along.

Following the demolition that needed to be done, concrete for both apparatus bay floors have been poured, the addition has been framed on the first and second floors and new roof trusses were delivered to the station on Monday.

Framing, roofing, window work and trim work are all currently on schedule and are expected to be completed by the last week of July. A rough frame inspection is scheduled to be done in the first week of August. Following the inspection, the insulation can begin.

Plumbing, HVAC and rough electrical work is scheduled to be worked on in July and drywall and primer paint should be completed by late August. Also in August will be the installation of the new garage door, interior finish work and cabinetry installation.

Flooring will begin in September and finish site work, including draining and paving, should begin at the beginning of October.

The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of October or the beginning of November.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held to celebrate the opening of the newly renovated station.

“Each time I have stopped over at Station 2 the crews are hard at work and making progress everyday,” Chief Partridge said. “It’s really exciting to see that the framework on the addition is being done and you can get an idea of what the finished product will look like. It will be great once everything is done and we can begin normal operations at the station.”

Station 2 will be closed while the project is ongoing. Engine 12 and the firefighters that operate out of Station 2 will be temporarily relocated to Station 3, 413 Bay Road.
