DRACUT — Chief Michael Cunha reports that the Dracut Fire Department responded Thursday to a two-alarm fire in a home on Nashua Road.
On Thursday, Jan. 23, at approximately 7:02 a.m., the Dracut Fire Department was called to 240 Nashua Road for a report of a structure fire.
Engine 3 was the first company to arrive at the scene, and found smoke showing from the roof of the home.
The home’s sole occupant evacuated on her own. Companies quickly stretched a hose line into the home and found fire in the attic. Companies attacked the fire and contained it to the attic, though the second floor suffered water and smoke damage.
A second alarm was struck to bring more manpower to the scene since temperatures at the time of the fire were about 18 degrees. Fighting fires in such cold temperatures requires frequent firefighter rehab.
There were no reported injuries.
The homeowner will be displaced but reported that she can stay with family members.
Firefighters from Lowell, Tyngsborough and Pelham, N.H. provided mutual aid at the scene. Firefighters from Methuen and Hudson, N.H. covered Dracut stations.
The fire’s cause remains under investigation by the Dracut Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit led by Capt. Sean Bushnell.
