STONEHAM – Superintendent David Ljungberg and School Committee Chair Jaime Wallace are pleased to share that Stoneham High School hosted its first annual Community Service Fair on March 4.
About 20 area organizations staffed the fair, allowing Stoneham High School students to learn more about volunteer opportunities in local community groups, nonprofits and businesses. The event was offered in partnership with the Stoneham Chamber of Commerce.
The initiative connected students with positive adult role models in their community. Students had the opportunity to speak to representatives from each group and learn more about the organizations and their missions.
In addition to helping students find accessible volunteer opportunities, the fair helps local organizations obtain the extra support they need to serve the community efficiently.
“The goal of hosting this event was to increase our youth engagement in volunteerism and reinforce the significant impact that their involvement has on our Stoneham community,” said School Committee member Megan Samborski. “We were thrilled that so many students and community groups came together to network and discover opportunities in our town. We look forward to seeing these connections grow.”
Participating organizations included: Mystic Valley Public Health Coalition, Girls on the Run Greater Boston, Fuller House of Stoneham, Stoneham Human Rights Comission, Stoneham Council on Aging, Stoneham Chamber of Commerce, Stoneham Historical Society & Museum, Stoneham 300, Boys & Girls Club of Metro North, Stoneham Little League, Stoneham Historical Society, Stoneham Interact Club, Stoneham Rotary Club, Keep Stoneham Beautiful (an imitative of Stoneham Community Action Network), Stoneham Farmers Market, Stoneham Alliance Against Violence, Stoneham Coalition for a Safe and Healthy Community, Stoneham Garden Club, Stoneham Business and Community Educational Foundation, and Stoneham 4 Social Justice.
“We are extremely grateful to each organization that participated in the career fair and helped our students explore the differences they can make in their community through volunteer work,” said Superintendent Ljungberg. “This career fair is an amazing opportunity for our students and local organizations to partner and serving the greater Stoneham community.”
