ATTLEBORO — Superintendent David Sawyer and Principal Kate Campbell are proud to share that the Attleboro High School DECA Chapter recently excelled in a districtwide competition held Jan. 9-10. Thirteen team members qualified for the next round of events to test their business skills and knowledge.
The District 2 DECA Competition, held at the EnVision Conference Center in Mansfield, drew 1,180 students from 18 schools across the region, including 51 students from the Attleboro High School DECA Chapter, which is only in its second year of competition. Attleboro’s DECA Chapter is an activity offered by the Marketing Career and Technical Education Program at Attleboro High School.
As a result of their performance at the district competition, 13 students from Attleboro High School have qualified for the Massachusetts DECA State Career Development Conference and Competition, which will be held Feb. 27-28 at the Westin Boston Seaport and Boston Convention & Exhibit Center. These 13 students will now have a chance at the statewide competition to advance to the DECA International Career Development Conference, which is set for April in Orlando, Florida.
DECA is an international organization that prepares high school students for marketing, finance, hospitality, and management careers by fostering leadership skills, business acumen, and professional growth.
The Attleboro High School DECA Chapter tripled its number of participants in this year’s district competition compared to 2024.
The 51 Attleboro High School DECA members competed in events including roleplays, written reports, quiz bowls, and more:
- Roleplay Competitors: Juniors Adam Alderson, Elmer Vidal, Kaelah Ineus, and Jake Fairweather
- Written Report Competitors: Juniors Keagan Gray, Charlie Haigh, Amelia Collins, Sydney Berndt, and Paige Nuttall
- Quiz Bowl Competitors: Junior Arianna Shiner and sophomore Cole Maia
- Professional Selling Event Competitor: Senior Camden Curtis (hybrid event)
“The addition of DECA to the activities offered as part of our Marketing Career and Technical Education Program has created an invaluable opportunity for our Attleboro High School students to shine and showcase their knowledge and skills on the district, statewide, and international level,” Principal Campbell said. “The Marketing Program, now in its fifth year at Attleboro High School, is preparing our students for real-world experiences by providing opportunities like these. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers, community partners, teachers, and staff who make this event possible.”
“The students’ performance at this year’s district competition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of both the students and our growing Marketing Career and Technical Education Program,” Superintendent Sawyer said. “We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and look forward to seeing their continued success at the state competition.”
