LEXINGTON — The Lex250 Commission is proud to share that the towns of Lexington and Concord have been named one of the top 52 places in the world to visit in 2025, according to The New York Times’ annual list.
The annual list, now in its 20th year, names locations around the world for travelers to visit, citing things to do and attractions to see.
The towns of Lexington and Concord dually made No. 23 on the list, and named the location as “a tribute to the ‘shot heard round the world.’”
“Massachusetts led the way in the forging of a new nation, and now it’s doing the same in advance of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026,” wrote AnneLise Sorensen, the article’s author.
The article mentioned both towns’ influential roles in the American fight for independence, highlighting the upcoming 250th anniversary celebration of the Battle of Lexington and Concord this year.
The article highlighted the historical significance of Paul Revere’s ride through Lexington and the celebrations that memorialize the event, including the reenactment of his arrival on April 18 and the Patriots’ Day parade on April 19.
Contemporary public art installations commemorating Lexington’s history were also mentioned, including the “Something is Being Done” monument commissioned by LexSeeHer and the “Riding Through History” series of decorated horse sculptures.
“We are thrilled that the events commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington and Concord have not only caught the eyes of the nation, but of the entire world,” Lex250 Commission Chair Suzie Barry said. “We are honored that our town has made the list coveted by international travelers every year, and welcome all to join us for the celebrations in April.”
