RAYNHAM — Police Chief David LaPlante and Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita report that the Raynham Police and Fire Departments responded to a crash late Monday night that involved two fatalities.
On Monday, Dec. 30, at about 9:25 p.m., 911 operators received a call about a one-car crash on East Britannia Street, near Thrasher Street. Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered a 2017 Hyundai Elantra leaning up against a tree. A preliminary investigation reveals the vehicle went airborne before hitting the tree.
The driver, AVERI COSTA-BURTON, 26, of FALL RIVER, was ejected from the vehicle. Two passengers remained in the vehicle: DORRYN ROBINSON, 28, of NEW BEDFORD, and a 25-YEAR-OLD MALE FROM FALL RIVER.
The female passenger, ROBINSON, was pronounced dead at the scene. The operator, COSTA-BURTON, was transported to Morton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The 25-YEAR-OLD MALE FROM FALL RIVER, who was sitting in the back seat, was transported by medical helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Brewster Ambulance also responded to the scene. Taunton Police and State Police assisted with traffic.
The crash is currently under investigation by the Raynham Police Accident Reconstruction Team and the Massachusetts State Police Detectives Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s office.
