WINCHENDON — On December 24, 2024 at 0900 the Winchendon Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a structure fire at 715 School Street in Winchendon.
The resident was advised to get everyone out of the building. Upon receiving reports from the scene of fire coming out of the rear of the residence a full 1st alarm assignment was struck.
Upon arrival of 39 Engine 3 Deputy Vaine reported heavy fire through the roof and the rear of the residence and requested a second alarm to the scene as well as a tanker shuttle group for water due to the residence being outside of the hydrant district.
The fire spread quickly throughout the 1928 home while firefighters battled the blaze. Once all occupants were accounted for, defensive operations were set up with a priority on cooling the two large propane cylinders on the side of the home.
Drafting operations were set up at Damon Pond by Rindge Fire to fill tankers from the following departments; Jaffrey Fire, Troy Fire, Richmond Fire, Keene Fire, Swanzey Fire, Winchester Fire, Townsend Fire, Fitzwilliam Fire, Phillipston Fire, Westminster Fire, Royalston Fire and Hubbardston Fire.
Also assisting on scene with apparatus and personnel were Gardner Fire, Templeton Fire and Ashburnham Fire. Princeton Fire assisted with covering the Central Street station.
The Massachusetts State Fire Marshal’s office and the District 8 Investigation Unit were notified, as was National Grid, to respond to the scene.

No injuries were reported and as of 1500 this fire is still under investigation.
