RANDOLPH — Chief Ronald Cassford reports that the Randolph Fire Department battled a fire at a home on Highland Glen Drive on Tuesday evening.
Firefighters responded to 15 Highland Glen Drive at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday for a report of smoke in the single family raised-ranch style home. Upon arrival, crews had a heavy smoke condition, with smoke billowing from the front door of the home. Crews brought a hose line into the basement in a fast attack mode and found that the furnace was on fire.
The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished within a few minutes, but there was water and smoke damage to the basement, as well as smoke damage to the first floor. The home is also without heat due to the fire in the furnace.
Three residents are displaced due to the fire and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
No residents or firefighters were injured as a result of the fire.
Holbrook Fire provided mutual aid at the scene. During the incident, the Braintree, Milton and Avon Fire Departments covered Randolph’s fire stations.
A preliminary investigation suggests a malfunction with the furnace, however the official origin and cause remain under investigation by the Randolph Fire Department. The State Fire Marshal’s Office was also notified, as is standard procedure.
“I wish to commend our firefighters, working on Christmas Eve, who quickly responded and extinguished this fire, preventing further damage to the home,” Chief Cassford said.
