PLAINVILLE — Chief Robert Skinner of the Plainville Fire Department and Chief James Floyd of the Plainville Police Department, along with their entire Plainville Public Safety team, regretfully announce that the victim of Friday’s tragic house fire has been identified as 68-year-old Mark Beyersdorfer.
On Friday, Dec. 13, at approximately 3:08 p.m., Plainville Fire responded to reports of a house fire at 61 School St. Firefighters arrived within two minutes and encountered heavy fire conditions in a single-family, ranch-style home.
Firefighters made entry into the home and located the sole occupant, Beyersdorfer. Tragically, he was unable to escape the blaze and succumbed to his injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The fire was quickly extinguished with the assistance of mutual aid from neighboring departments, including North Attleborough, Foxborough, Mansfield, Bellingham, Norfolk, Wrentham, Franklin, and Cumberland, Rhode Island. The Attleboro Fire Department provided station coverage, while the Mansfield Emergency Management Agency and Providence Canteen supported operations on the scene.
A preliminary investigation indicates the fire was accidental. The origin and cause remain under investigation by the Plainville Fire Department, Plainville Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office.
Chief Skinner, Chief Floyd, and the entire Plainville Public Safety team wish to extend their deepest condolences to Mr. Beyersdorfer’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
Further updates will be provided as they become available.
