AVON — Chief David Charest is pleased to announce that Brad Cronin has been appointed as the new Assistant Chief of the Avon Fire Department.
Assistant Chief Cronin began his career as a volunteer firefighter with Saint Michael’s College Fire and Rescue in Colchester, Vermont. In 2001, he was hired as a firefighter at the Newport Fire Department in Rhode Island and served there for 21 years. During his career, he spent several years in the fire prevention office before returning to suppression and retiring as a Captain in 2022.
As a Certified Fire Protection Specialist, Assistant Chief Cronin has also taught fire service representatives across the country in the Technical Fire Prevention curriculum for the National Fire Academy. He serves on and chairs several National Fire Protection Association Technical Committees and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Standards Technical Panels.
“Assistant Chief Cronin has outstanding experience that will prove to be a valuable asset to the Avon Fire Department,” Chief Charest said. “His dedication to fire prevention and public safety is unwavering, and I look forward to working with him to protect the Town of Avon.”
Assistant Chief Cronin holds Bachelor of Science degrees in business administration and fire safety and engineering technology from Saint Michael’s College and the University of Cincinnati. He also holds a master’s degree in public administration from Anna Maria College.
“I am honored to join the Avon Fire Department and its team of dedicated professionals,” Assistant Chief Cronin said. “It is a privilege to step into this role, and I am eager to begin working with the members of this department to ensure the safety and well-being of the Avon community.”
