ATTLEBORO — Superintendent David Sawyer and Principal Kate Campbell are pleased to share that Learning by Design Magazine has awarded Attleboro High School a 2024 Citation of Excellence Award.
Attleboro High School is a new-construction facility that opened in 2022. The school offers 19 career and technical education (CTE) programs and serves 2,028 students.
The school, which was designed by Kaestle Boos Associates Architects (KBA Architects), was submitted into Learning By Design Magazine’s Fall 2024 Architectural & Interior Design Awards contest within the new-construction, over 100,000-square-foot high school category.
The Citation of Excellence Award is Learning by Design Magazine’s second-highest recognition level after the Grand Prize Award.
“The CTE space looks practical and allows for hands-on teaching,” a judge said of the school’s design, as published in Learning by Design Magazine. “The biophilic design is very visible, especially at the cafeteria area. The school has a wide variety of learning spaces for all kinds of students to find their place.”
Attleboro High School is divided into four learning communities that fulfill the needs of different learning groups and grades. The building was designed to promote adaptable and inclusive learning through a series of nonprogrammed spaces with retractable walls, flexible furniture, interdisciplinary innovation labs, and breakout spaces in each wing.
The building has one main entrance with separate community access to the Blue Pride Marketplace, gymnasium, and auditorium, keeping the academic wings private for students. The Library Media Center and Student Commons are located in the middle of the school to provide a sense of central organization.
The facility’s biophilic design, which uses natural light, natural materials, and warm colors, allows students to connect visually and physically to the outdoors.
“We are honored to receive this recognition from Learning by Design Magazine,” Superintendent Sawyer said. “Kaestle Boos Associates created a beautiful and thoughtful space for our high school students to learn, and we are grateful for their dedication to this project.”
