STONEHAM — Captain Jim Marshall reports the Stoneham Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire Tuesday night at a commercial building on Maple Street.
Dispatchers received a call at 7:34 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, about a fire in a one-story brick building at 70 Maple St. Upon arrival, Stoneham firefighters saw smoke coming from the building, which houses a woodworking shop. The heavy smoke and amount of equipment in the building provided challenges for firefighters, and a second alarm was struck shortly thereafter.
One firefighter was checked at the scene and he returned to duty. There were no injuries.
Mutual aid was provided by firefighters from Winchester, Reading, Woburn, Melrose and Wakefield. Saugus, Malden and Medford crews provided station coverage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
