GEORGETOWN – Utility Director Marlene Ladderbush reports that the Georgetown Water Department has enhanced its active water restriction to Phase 3 due to ongoing and increasing drought conditions.
As of Monday, June 8, the Georgetown Water Department has moved into a Phase 3 Water Ban due to the reduced streamflow of 0.5 cubic feet per second from the Parker River in Byfield.
As part of the Phase 3 Water Ban, the following mandatory policies have been put in effect:
- Non-essential outdoor watering is banned between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
- Unattended non-essential outdoor watering is restricted to one day per week
- Odd house numbers may conduct non-essential outdoor watering before 7 a.m. and after 7 p.m. on Thursdays
- Even house numbers may conduct non-essential outdoor watering before 7 a.m. and after 7 p.m. on Tuesdays
- Sprinklers may not be used on the weekends
“It is critical that users restrict their non-essential water usage,” said Director Ladderbush. “Water production is strained, and if a plant can not keep up with production and reserve water storage isn’t maintained, fire safety becomes a serious issue.”
