DIGHTON — Chief George Nichols is pleased to announce Det. Ryan Richards has been appointed as Deputy Chief of Police.
Deputy Chief Richards was sworn in by the Dighton Board of Selectmen on Wednesday, June 26.
The Department created the Deputy Chief position this year to help fulfill the additional administrative and personnel needs in a growing community.
“On behalf of the Dighton Police Department, it is my pleasure to congratulate Deputy Chief Ryan Richards on his appointment,” said Chief Nichols. “Through his 19 years of service, he has proven to be an asset to the success of our department and to the Dighton community.”
Deputy Chief Richards began his career with the Dighton Police Department in 2005 as a reserve officer, and was appointed as a Patrolman in October 2010.
In 2018, he was assigned to the role of Detective.
Deputy Chief Richards has demonstrated strong leadership abilities throughout his career, serving as Union President since 2017, as a member of the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) Drone Unit, and as a detective for the Bristol County Task Force.
Deputy Chief Richards will be pinned during a ceremony on Wednesday, July 10.
