ATTLEBORO — Superintendent David Sawyer and Coelho Middle School Principal Andrew Boles are pleased to share that the Coelho Middle School PTO with help from the Physical Education Department hosted its Color Run fundraiser on May 17 and raised $35,000 to support extracurricular activities and events.
More than 500 students ran three laps at the Coelho Middle School while raising money to support several initiatives supporting several student activity groups like the band, chorus, Junior Art Directors, CMS Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, Coelho Middle School PE Leaders, Special Olympics also known as the “Coelho Day Games”, along with raising money for the Olivia Knighton Foundation.
Students were sponsored by family members to enter the race and had color powder thrown on them as they completed the course. About 100 community members attended and volunteered.
Students raised $35,000 at this year’s Color Run. Local businesses that donated to the color run event included Niland Electric, Solect Energy, Jessica Pion Realty, Schumacher Companies, Vintage Peach Beauty, Palagi Bros, D&G Auto Service, Next Step, Shannon O’Brien School of Dance, Mediterranean Grill & Pizzeria and more.
During the event there was also an obstacle course, games, DJ, ice cream truck, photo booth and pie eating contest. Four students and a staff member had the chance to “pie” a teacher or an administrator of their choice in the face.
The Coelho Middle School PTO and staff members presented Brad and Britney Knighton with a $4,000 donation to the Olivia Knighton Foundation. The money was donated in Olivia’s name to support the on-going initiatives that the Knighton Foundation has been a part of to give back to the community.
“The color run event is always a fun and exciting time for our students and community members,” said Principal Boles. “We are very grateful to all the local businesses who came out and supported our school.”
The donations will also fund field trips, guest speakers/presenters, enhance the middle school library and will help with purchasing large ticket items for the Coelho Middle School, such as interactive TVs and more.
