UXBRIDGE — Superintendent Michael Baldassarre and Principal Dr. Michael Rubin are pleased to announce that the Uxbridge High School Student Council has been recognized as a National Gold Council of Excellence.
The National Association of Student Councils (NASC) recognized Uxbridge High School’s Student Council for its exemplary record of leadership, service and activities that improve the school and community.
The award is a testament to the highest standards of quality, leadership, innovation and community engagement that the Council consistently demonstrates in its projects and activities. NASC’s National Gold Councils of Excellence are models for student councils nationwide.
Prior to earning this award, the Uxbridge High School Student Council was recognized as a Gold Council of Excellence at the Massachusetts Association of Student Councils (MASC) Spring Conference in March. According to the MASC website, the Gold Council of Excellence is one of the highest honors a student council can receive from the organization. The award is presented to student council programs that are deemed to be the most outstanding in the state association. The recognition is based on a competitive scoring rubric voted on by a committee of judges.
The Uxbridge High School Student Council focuses on community and school service. In an effort to give back to the community, council members regularly support the People First Food Pantry, volunteer at the local senior center, support the school’s PTO with event planning and projects, sponsor school spirit events, participate in the town’s annual clean up, and offer babysitting services to the school’s PTO members.
Members also participate in the Special Olympics Massachusetts Annual Polar Plunge raising money to support Special Olympics Massachusetts.
“I would like to congratulate the Student Council on this outstanding achievement,” Principal Dr. Rubin said. “They are incredible student leaders who work hard to create positive change in our school by supporting and uplifting their peers and community members. They are well deserving of this prestigious award.”
