BOURNE — Superintendent Kerri Anne Quinlan-Zhou and Bourne High School Principal Lisa Maguire are pleased to share that the Bourne High School Drama Club has advanced to the semifinal round of the Massachusetts Education Theater Guild (METG) Competition.
METG is a statewide non-profit that encourages theater education and appreciation in schools. The organization hosts several competitions and scholarships for winning productions across Massachusetts.
On March 2, the Bourne Drama Club performed an abridged version of Macbeth at Bourne High School for a panel of theatre scholars and professionals along with six other schools in the region. Bourne High School and two other schools from the region will be performing in the semifinal at the Theater at Maria Weston Chapman in Weymouth on March 9 at 2:30 p.m. The competition showcase is open to the public and is $15 for admission.
The Bourne High School drama club received five awards for their production of Macbeth during the preliminary round. Acting awards were granted to Logan Broadway (senior) as the titular role of Macbeth and to the three witches, Madison Moore (senior), Ella Keefe (senior) and Abigail Billard (freshman) as a trio. Technical and design awards went to Scott LaFleur (senior) for scenic design and to Abigail Smith (junior) and Cooper White (senior) for lighting design. Kendra Mahoney (senior) also received the “David Dooley Unsung Hero Award” for her work in organizing the competition.
After Saturday’s semifinal round, two teams will advance to the state finals at the John Hancock Event Center in Boston.
“We are so proud of our thespians and are elated to see their hard work and talent recognized,” said Superintendent Kerri Anne Quinlan-Zhou. “On behalf of the Bourne community, we tell them to ‘break a leg’!”
