HAMPTON – Superintendent Lois Costa and Principal Ken Hawkins proudly announce that, thanks to the generosity of the Hampton school community, Hampton Academy has opened a weather station in memory of late Science Teacher Arthur “Bud” Wheeler.
The new, cutting-edge weather station, a Wireless Vantage Pro2 Plus, measures real-time data for outside temperature and humidity sensors housed in a passive radiation shield, wind speed and direction, and rainfall. The equipment will significantly enhance the meteorology unit in the Grade 7 curriculum and provide invaluable authentic data for other classes.
The weather station was funded through the generous donations given in memory of beloved Science Teacher and Hampton community member Bud Wheeler, who dedicated 40 years as a teacher and assistant principal at Hampton Academy.
Approximately $2,700 was donated to the school.
Wheeler, who passed in 2022, was known for his passion for education and was loved by both colleagues and students. He enjoyed all aspects of science and prided himself on developing a rich and collaborative learning community. His teaching style was recognized by Antioch University of New England, and he was asked to instruct teachers as an adjunct professor. He also taught graduate level courses.
“We are deeply grateful for the generous donations that made this weather station possible. This station not only enhances our educational offerings but also honors the legacy of a remarkable educator who dedicated his life to inspiring students,” said Principal Hawkins. “Mr. Wheeler’s legacy will live on through this innovative addition to Hampton Academy.”
The weather station is expected to be installed and ready for student use in February.
