PLAINVILLE — Chief Richard Ball reports that the Plainville Fire Department and mutual aid partners responded to a three-alarm fire Thursday afternoon on Wampum Street.
On Thursday, Dec. 28, at 2:38 p.m., Plainville Fire responded to reports of a large fire at a single-family home located at 149 Wampum St.
Upon arrival, first responders reported heavy fire and smoke showing from an attached garage, spreading to the single-family home. A second and third alarm were struck in quick succession, sending additional fire department resources and mutual aid to the scene.
Three residents, who were the only people home at the time, had evacuated from the home by the time firefighters arrived. Firefighters were able to safely evacuate the family’s dog.
The home was deemed uninhabitable. Three residents were displaced and are being assisted by American Red Cross of Massachusetts.
The fire was brought under control by about 4 p.m. There were no reported injuries.
Firefighters from Wrentham, Mansfield, North Attleboro, Foxborough, Attleboro, Walpole Cumberland, Rehoboth, Providence Canteen, Bellingham and Franklin, provided mutual aid at the scene. Norton Fire Department provided station coverage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Plainville Fire Department and the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
