WHAT:
School districts face unique safety and security challenges, and this summit will seek to identify and provide best practices for facing each of those challenges. Massachusetts Partnerships for Youth’s annual School Safety Summit emphasizes the importance of a positive school culture in creating a safe school environment. Speakers from both Federal and local government, as well as school leaders, will address practices for environmental safety, responding to incidents such as swatting/bomb threats, and trends in targeted school violence and terrorism. Throughout this conference, speakers will stress strategies to enhance collaboration between schools and public safety. School administrators, mental/behavioral support staff and public safety professionals are strongly encouraged to attend this informative conference.
Also at the event, the annual Dr. Patrick A. Schettini, Jr. Memorial Award will be presented. The award is presented annually to an active school superintendent, police chief or fire chief from a member MPY district.
Dr. Schettini, in his many years as a teacher, administrator and superintendent, displayed leadership and compassion toward his students and worked tirelessly to improve education through his advocacy efforts at the local, state, and federal level.
Recipients of this prestigious award exemplify Dr. Schettini’s commitment to the health and safety of students, while dealing with the complexities of the 21st century. The recipient of the award will not be announced until the conference.
