WHAT:
Assabet’s Culinary Arts Department, under the leadership of Chef Louis Trudeau with support of Lead Teacher Chef Margo Wilson and Chef Jessica Bengtson, has created what is believed to be the first food show in the state specifically for high school students.
Food trade shows are generally age restricted.
Chef Trudeau is a member of the Epicurean Club of Boston, and brought students to an event hosted by Dole and Bailey, an ECB associate member. This provided the impetus for creating a larger event to connect culinary arts students with top professionals.
Assabet Tech works to prepare graduates for employment in high-demand and emerging fields. A recent survey by the National Restaurant Association revealed that 62 percent of operators reported not having enough employees to accommodate customers effectively.
About 20 nationally known food service providers will be on hand. Some companies will be staffing stations, while others are donating food items and/or equipment.
Each student will receive an event ID badge and gift bag, much like at a professional event.
(Media members interested in attending are asked to contact Tom Zuppa, tom@jgpr.net, no later than Tuesday, Oct. 24.)
