EASTON — Chief Justin Alexander and the members of Easton Fire wish to thank the community for its support of the department’s annual Open House.
The event was held on Saturday, Sept. 30 at Easton Fire Station 1 in recognition of National Fire Prevention Week.
“Everyone in the department looks forward to the Open House each year. It’s a great opportunity for us to meet the members of our community, show them what we do, and provide fun activities, as well as fire safety information,” Chief Alexander. “We could not have such a successful event each year without the support of community organizations, local businesses and sponsors, as well as our Easton firefighters, staff and volunteers.”
Guests were able to check out the department’s apparatus and Easton Police cruisers, a Department of Fire Services Hazardous Materials Response vehicle and a Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad robot.
Kids were assisted by firefighters in using fire hoses on a spray house and took photos with Sparky the Fire Dog. They were also able to have their faces painted and decorated pumpkins. A Heart Health Awareness table was set up and CPR demonstrations were provided.
Visitors were able to watch a Jaws of Life demonstration and a ladder climb by Firefighter Kevin Mulcahy, who dropped candy for the audience below. The department also conducted a “Close Before You Doze” live burn demonstration showing the importance of keeping doors closed to slow the spread of fire.
Several community organizations and committees were on hand, including Raising Multicultural Kids, First Responder Therapy Dogs, H.U.G.S. II of Easton, the Southeastern Massachusetts Regional Emergency Communications Center, the Easton Tricentennial Committee, and the Easton Municipal Building Committee. Pizza, popcorn, coffee and ice cream were also available for all to enjoy.
Chief Alexander would like to recognize the many staff members, Easton firefighters and the Easton Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) who helped to plan the Open House and volunteered during the event.
The Easton Fire Department would like to thank the local sponsors who supported the event and the representatives who attended on behalf of each community group. They include: Easton Lions Club, Domino’s, Alltown Coffee, E’s Ice Cream, Bank of Easton, Hilliard’s Chocolates, Dana Barros Basketball Club, Langwater Farm, Buddy’s Union Villa, Easton Children’s Museum, Take Outs Pizza & Grill, West Side Graphics, Big Y, Roche Bros., Shaw’s, Beanery on Washington, TMK Paving, Signs by Tomorrow, Paint Rust & Pixie Dust, Maplewood Country Day Camp, The Farmer’s Daughter, Fernandes Lumber, Damons Junk Car & Truck Removal, Baltazar Entertainment, Oliver Ames High School art students, and Trooper Gerald Harris and K-9 Koala of the Massachusetts State Police.
The department would also like to thank Sen. Walter F. Timilty for attending the event.
Fire Prevention Week, recognized Oct. 8-14 this year, is organized by the National Fire Protection Association with the goal of educating the public about simple but important ways they can keep themselves and those they live with safe. This year’s campaign is “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention.”
