BRIDGEWATER — Police Chief Christopher D. Delmonte and Fire Chief Michael P. MacDermott report that the Bridgewater Police and Fire Departments responded to a two-vehicle crash that left a driver with serious injuries on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Aug. 16, at approximately 3 p.m., Bridgewater Police and Fire received multiple 911 calls reporting a motor vehicle crash on Bedford Street near Administration Road.
First responders arrived at the scene and discovered a two-vehicle crash with the vehicles involved — a Chevrolet pickup truck and a Volkswagen utility vehicle — blocking Bedford Street, each with serious front end damage.
The operator of the pickup truck was treated at the scene. The operator of the Volkswagen suffered what appeared to be serious injuries. Firefighters had to extricate the driver of the Volkswagen from their vehicle, before they were flown to a regional trauma center by a medical helicopter.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the pickup truck was heading southbound on Bedford Street and crossed the center line into the northbound lane, colliding with the northbound Volkswagen.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation assisted in shutting down Bedford Street.
The Plymouth County Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called to the scene for photographs, the Bridgewater Police Drone was flown over the scene, detectives were called to the scene, and an accident reconstructionist was summoned.
The crash remains under investigation by Bridgewater Police.
