MARION — Superintendent Michael S. Nelson and Principal Marla Sirois are pleased to announce that school will reopen to Sippican Elementary students on Friday, May 26, as cleanup efforts conclude following a sprinkler malfunction Tuesday night.
School administration, facilities staff, and outside vendor partners have been working diligently since Tuesday night to clean up the water and dry out the impacted classrooms and spaces.
On Thursday afternoon, the Marion Fire Chief evaluated the building’s fire system to provide final verification that it is operational. Superintendent Nelson also completed a walkthrough of the building with the town’s Public Health Nurse, in consultation with the building inspector, ensuring the building is ready and safe for students and staff to return.
The vendor partner assisting with cleanup efforts has also endorsed reopening the building.
“I am grateful to the town officials, facilities staff and vendor partners who have been working as quickly and effectively as possible to ensure our classroom spaces are clean,” Superintendent Nelson said. “I would also like to extend my utmost appreciation to our families and staff for their patience and understanding during these last couple of days. We look forward to welcoming students back tomorrow.”
This is expected to be the final update.
